SOLID CONSTRUCTION and EXQUISITE DETAILING
Furniture meant to become tomorrow’s heirlooms should be built ruggedly enough to withstand everyday family living, yet convey the refined styling and design details that represent timeless taste. Strong, rigid construction, using traditional joinery methods, is essential for crafting furniture that lasts.
Changes in temperature and humidity can wreak havoc on poorly constructed wood furniture. Biscuits, dowels or knockdown fittings are not suitable for the next generation of antiques. Associated shrinking and expansion can work joints and fasteners loose, rendering your furniture useless after only five or ten years.
By contrast, pegged mortise and tenon, dovetail, and fox tenon joints are constructed so they cannot come apart, no matter what kind of climate they encounter. At Richard Stone Fine Furniture, all handcrafted furniture includes professional joinery. |

STYLE and DESIGN
As a skilled craftsman, I can produce furniture in a number of styles, from period or traditional to contemporary designs. You may want to match an existing collection of Shaker, Queen Anne, Arts and Crafts items, or create a contrast with something thoroughly modern. Either way, you’ll face additional decisions about whether to add surface treatments, such as veneer or inlay, and whether to blend more than one type of wood in a single piece of furniture.
While period furniture styles have their arrangements of elements such as drawers and doors, your specific needs may demand a completely different approach. I work closely with each customer in the early stages of design to ensure that your furniture functions perfectly for the purpose for which it is intended. |

CUSTOM BUILT for YOUR NEEDS
Because I custom-tailor each piece to suit your home, your family, your storage needs, as well as the space you have available, each piece can be made to be exactly the size you want it to be.
When specifying dimensions, keep in mind that your new furniture should be in proportion, not only to room size, but also to existing furnishings that you plan to keep. People of shorter and taller than average stature will especially appreciate the comfort of having chair seats and work surfaces made to fit. |
